Prof.Dr. Cengiz Türkay

Education and Early Career

Born on August 21, 1964, in Elazığ, Prof. Dr. Cengiz Türkay completed his primary and secondary education in Adana. He earned his medical degree from Çukurova University Faculty of Medicine in 1988. Following his compulsory service at Fethiye Social Security Hospital, he began his residency as a research assistant in the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at Akdeniz University.

Academic Advancement

After qualifying as a Cardiovascular Surgery Specialist in 1995, Dr. Türkay held several prestigious positions at Akdeniz University:

• 1995 – 1999: Lecturer
• 1999 – 2003: Assistant Professor
• 2003: Earned the title of Associate Professor
• 2005 – 2008: Served as Deputy Chief Physician at Akdeniz University Hospital
• 2009: Promoted to Full Professor

Clinical Expertise and Achievements

Professor Türkay has conducted extensive research and clinical work in:

• Coronary Artery Surgery (Bypass operations)
• Heart Transplantation and Artificial Heart Implantation
• Stem Cell Injections for cardiac therapy
• Laser Varicose Vein Treatment

His clinical impact is significant, having actively participated in over 130 heart transplants and more than 350 artificial heart applications. His contributions to the field earned him the First Prize in Scientific Research and Laboratory during the 25th-anniversary celebrations of Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine.

Current Role

Professor Dr. Cengiz Türkay continues his work at Akdeniz University’s Department of Cardiovascular Surgery. In addition to his clinical practice, he educates future doctors on venous diseases, functional vascular diseases, and heart valve disorders.
